Joachim Vlieghe

In 2011, Joachim began exploring literacy in a social media culture. He entered the academic world as a long time enthusiast of digital media, creative tinkering and self-directed learning. As a trained educator, he gladly presented his findings at conferences (e.g. NeMLA, ISATT, InfoSocial) and during invited lectures (e.g. at Dag van de Cultuur Educatie, HOWest, Bournemouth University). Joachim also shared his findings in writing through academic journals (e.g. CLCWeb, New Media & Society) and popular press (e.g. Apache). In the spirit of his participant observations in the social media culture, Joachim created a research blog where he recorded and shared interesting reading material, videos, images and projects.

After four years of intense research and inspiring collaborations with international scholars Joachim completed his PhD dissertation in the summer of 2014. On November 18th 2014 he was rewarded for his efforts and received a doctorate in Pedagogical Science. This website was created to celebrate that accomplishment and to showcase his work. It commemorates an exciting adventure and marks the beginning of a new one ...
